I am in my 9th month of pregnancy and my delivery date is very close. Do I need to do any special preparation for delivery? My husband and I are not very sure about what all we should carry to the hospital. Please guide us.

It is completely natural to feel anxious as the delivery date approaches. The first and most important thing to remember is not to panic. Childbirth is a natural process and in most cases it happens smoothly, so try to stay calm and go with the flow. Avoid stressing too much about what exactly will happen in the hospital.
Coming to hospital preparation, packing the hospital bag is an important step and often creates confusion till the last moment. You need to plan for two people the baby and the mother. For the baby, carry soft, comfortable clothes, preferably cotton. This includes caps, mittens, and socks. If you are using new clothes, make sure they are washed once before use. If you prefer using previously used baby clothes from the family, wash and pack them properly. Swaddling cloths or baby wrappers are also important to keep the newborn warm and comfortable. Diapers should be carried for emergencies; if you prefer not to use diapers, traditional cloth nappies can be kept as well.
For the mother, maternity gowns and maternity bras are essential to ensure comfort and make breastfeeding easier. Loose, comfortable cotton clothes should be packed, whether the delivery is normal or by cesarean section. After delivery, it is common to have vaginal discharge or bleeding for a few weeks, so sanitary pads are a must. These basic preparations will help make your hospital stay more comfortable and allow you to focus on welcoming your baby without unnecessary stress.
