Can Having Sex During Pregnancy Cause a Miscarriage?
I'm 9 weeks pregnant, and my partner and I are wondering if it's safe to have sex. I've heard conflicting things. Does sex actually cause miscarriage, or is that a common myth that isn't really true?

For most pregnancies, sex does not cause miscarriage. Research consistently shows it’s a myth.
First-trimester miscarriages happen mostly due to chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo determined at fertilization, not afterward. The mucus plug sealing the cervix, the amniotic sac, and the uterine walls protect the pregnancy from physical pressure.
In a low-risk pregnancy with no complications, sex is safe throughout all three trimesters. Light spotting or cramping after sex can occur due to increased cervical sensitivity and is generally not cause for concern unless it involves heavy bleeding or significant pain.
When doctors may advise against it: Placenta previa, history of preterm labor, unexplained bleeding, threatened miscarriage, or cervical insufficiency.
