I have been using a nasal spray almst every night for the last few month because my nose gets block when sleeping.... Initialy it worked very well, but now I feel like the blckage returns even faster if I skip it for a day. Have I become dependent on the spray?

This is a very common problem seen in people who use decongestant nasal sprays regularly for a long time. In the beginning, these sprays often give quick relief from nasal blockage, but with continuous use, the nose can become dependent on them. Over time, many patients notice that the blockage returns more strongly whenever the spray effect wears off, leading to repeated and more frequent use. This condition is commonly known as rebound nasal congestion.
Persistent nasal blockage should not be ignored or treated only with repeated spray use. Problems like allergies, sinus infection, nasal polyps, or a deviated nasal septum can also be the real reason behind the symptoms. Instead of relying on temporary relief, it is important to get a proper ENT evaluation to identify the underlying cause and start safer, long-term treatment options for lasting relief.
