I Thought My Kidney Stone Would End With Surgery. It Didn’t
“The thought of surgery scared me more than the kidney stone itself. Then I found out I had another option.”
“I thought removing my kidney stone meant getting operated on. I was wrong.”
“I kept waiting for the pain to stop, while worrying that surgery was my only way out.”
For Vivek Arora, a 40-year-old businessman from Jaipur, the sudden onset of sharp, cramping pain in his side was unlike anything he had experienced before, and what initially felt like a temporary issue quickly turned into repeated episodes that disrupted his daily routine and left him searching for answers. After medical evaluation, he was diagnosed with a kidney stone, and while the condition itself was manageable, the thought of undergoing surgery made him anxious and hesitant about the next steps.
He tried medications and increased fluid intake as advised, hoping the stone would pass naturally, but the discomfort persisted, and the uncertainty of when the pain might strike again made it difficult for him to focus on work or rest properly. As the situation continued, he realized he needed a more effective solution but still wanted to avoid invasive procedures if possible.
During his consultation at Pristyn Care, Vivek learned about ESWL (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy), a non-invasive treatment that uses shock waves to break kidney stones into smaller fragments, allowing them to pass through the urinary tract more easily. The idea of a procedure that didn’t involve cuts or traditional surgery gave him a sense of relief and encouraged him to consider it seriously.
After understanding the process and what to expect, he decided to go ahead with ESWL, feeling reassured by its non-surgical approach and relatively quick recovery time. The procedure was carried out as planned, and over the following days, he began to pass the fragmented stone pieces gradually, which significantly reduced the pain he had been experiencing.
As his recovery progressed, Vivek noticed a steady improvement in his condition, with the intense episodes becoming less frequent and eventually disappearing altogether, allowing him to return to his normal routine without the constant fear of sudden discomfort. He also became more mindful of staying hydrated and following preventive measures to reduce the chances of recurrence.
Looking back, he feels that choosing a non-invasive treatment made a significant difference in his experience, as it addressed the problem effectively without the stress he had associated with surgery. What once felt like a daunting situation turned into a manageable and reassuring journey with the right guidance.
