No Cuts, No Fear – My Kidney Stone Journey
Rohit Sharma, a 35-year-old IT professional from Pune, never imagined that a sudden, sharp pain in his lower back would turn out to be a kidney stone. What started as occasional discomfort quickly escalated into intense pain episodes that disrupted his daily routine.
“It would come in waves,” he recalls. “Sometimes I couldn’t even sit properly during work meetings.”
Initial medications helped manage the pain temporarily, but the stone did not pass on its own. As the episodes became more frequent, Rohit realized he needed a more definitive solution. The idea of surgery, however, made him anxious – especially the thought of cuts and a long recovery period.
“I was honestly scared of traditional surgery,” he admits. “I kept delaying it because of that fear.”
While researching alternatives, he came across RIRS (Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery), a minimally invasive procedure used to treat kidney stones without any external incisions. Wanting to understand more, he booked a consultation with a specialist at Pristyn Care.
During the consultation, the doctor explained how RIRS works – using a flexible scope passed through the natural urinary pathway to locate and break the stone with a laser. Since it involved no cuts or stitches, the recovery time was significantly shorter compared to conventional surgery.
“That’s what convinced me,” Rohit says. “No cuts meant less fear for me.”
After completing the required tests and preparations, the procedure was scheduled. On the day of surgery, Rohit felt more at ease knowing what to expect. The procedure was completed successfully, and he was monitored for a short period before being discharged.
The recovery phase was smoother than he had anticipated. Within a few days, he was able to resume light activities, and gradually, he returned to his normal routine without the lingering pain that once troubled him.
“The relief was immediate,” he shares. “That constant discomfort I had been living with – it was finally gone.”
Today, Rohit stays mindful of his hydration and diet to prevent recurrence. Reflecting on his experience, he feels that choosing a minimally invasive approach made the entire journey far less stressful.
“For me, it was truly ‘no cuts, no fear,’” he says. “Just the right treatment at the right time.”
