Thrombosed Hemorrhoids is a disease in which the sacs in the anal passage get pushed outwards from the anal opening and are filled up with blood clots. Hemorrhoids are identified as extended and enlarged vascular tissues in the lower side of the rectum and the adjoining part of the anus. It is around the end of the large intestine, the passage from where the bowel leaves the body.

Hemorrhoid is a natural phenomenon that is present in every human for the passage of stool. But dilated, swollen or irritated hemorrhoids can cause troubles. Swollen blood vessels inside the anal canal can become painful hemorrhoids. It can lead to itchy and painful skin around the anus and can cause painful bowel movements.

Hemorrhoids can be found on the inside or outside the anus or anal opening. This makes it two types of hemorrhoids, internal and external hemorrhoids. The name itself clearly indicates. The hemorrhoids found on the inner side of the anus are the internal hemorrhoids. The hemorrhoids found towards the outside the anus or anal opening are the external hemorrhoids.

Thrombosed Hemorrhoids originate when either the internal or the external hemorrhoids gets filled up of blood clots. The blood clots may be of several reasons, most common of which is an injury.

  • Visible and evident painful lumps formed around the anus and towards the anal opening.There is unbearable pain every time stress or pressure is put around the anus and anal area like while sitting, walking, attempting to pass a stool, etc. In severe stages of the disease, the patient experiences a similar pain for many hours after the bowel movements too.
  • Itchy, sensitive and irritated skin around the anal area.
  • Swelling and lumps around the anal area and anal opening.
  • In some cases, hemorrhoids may get infected and lead to the dangerous situation of the abscess. Apart from irritation, uneasiness, and pain, the infection may also cause a high fever.
  • Blood in the stool can also be seen in some cases. If the hemorrhoids have become seriously infected or the disease has worsened, there may be a painful discharge of blood at the time of passing stool. The person may also find it difficult to pass stool.

  • Putting a lot of pressure while passing stool. It puts a lot of strain and pressure on the veins around the hemorrhoid tract that connects anus and the end of large Intestines for bowel passage.
  • Prolonged case of Diarrhea
  • Irregular bowel movements and constipation.
  • Thrombosed Hemorrhoids can also be caused at the time of childbirth or pregnancy. The force and pressure exerted to push the baby out at the time of childbirth.
  • Unhealthy lifestyle involving almost no physical activity and sitting constantly for prolonged hours.

In the initial stages of thrombosed hemorrhoids can be treated naturally by medications and may get healed itself too by taking precautions. But in advanced stages of the disease, it is essential to get thrombosed hemorrhoids treated surgically. The treatment should not be delayed as delaying may further complicate the disease and become more painful and inconvenient for the patient.
