Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS is an uncomfortable disorder marked by substantial changes in bowel movements. Basic guidelines for patients with IBS: 

  • Reduce the intake of onions, pulses, peas, lentils, and beans. 
  • Reduce the intake of apples and fruits containing stones. You can eat citrus fruits.

  • Spicy Foods 
  • Artificial Sweeteners ( such as Sugar-free gum, Sugar substitute packets for coffee Sugar-free ice cream) 
  • Soda 
  • Alcohol 
  • Coffee and Other Drinks with Caffeine 

 

The best treatment for IBS

IBS can be treated with medications and making diet and lifestyle changes, as per your condition. Changing the diet is the first thing that a patient with IBS should try. A healthy lifestyle with a low-fat diet, regular exercise and avoiding alcohol and smoking often helps to relieve the symptoms of IBS such as diarrhea, constipation, bloating, farting, etc.  a great difference. 

The doctor may prescribe medication to the patient to keep the symptoms at bay. Such medications and therapies include anticholinergic medicines, which work by calming the spasms, and antidepressants which are helpful to reduce stress.
