When you consult with a plastic or cosmetic surgeon regarding double chin removal, he/she will discuss your goals, medical history, and lifestyle habits to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure.

After confirming, the doctor will also-

• Examine your face and neck and take the measurements.
• Use a marker or pen to draw on the chin to identify the correction spots.

Procedure

The standard technique for double chin removal is liposuction. The double chin removal surgery can be performed at a clinic or hospital and takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Before taking you to the operating room, the nursing staff will give you a hospital gown to wear. In the OT, the surgery will take place as below-

• Local anesthesia will be administered to numb the surgery site. If necessary, the patient may also be sedated.
• The surgeon will make the markings on the chin and neck where the liposuction cannula will be inserted.
• The skin is cleansed using an antiseptic solution to reduce the risk of infection.
• Small incisions are made in the skin to insert the liposuction cannula. The incisions are usually made around the ear or hairline so that they can be concealed easily.
• The excess fat tissues are broken down using liposuction and suctioned out properly. If required, the skin tissues may also be removed to reshape the chin and eliminate sagginess.
• The muscles are tightened, and stitches are placed to close the incisions.
• Bandages or dressings are placed over the incisions to cover them.
• A chin strap is also given to the patient to support the chin as it heals.

The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, which means the patient is discharged on the same day. The plastic surgeon will give you a recovery guide and follow-up timeline.
