What is ABHA ?

The full form of ABHA is Ayushman Bharat Health Account. ABHA is a randomly generated 14 digit number used for the purposes of uniquely identifying persons, authenticating them, and threading their health records (only with their informed consent) across multiple systems and stakeholders. If any individual wants to participate in ABDM and have his or her health records digitally stored or saved, creating an ABHA is a must.

How to create ABHA ?

Create a new ABHA account using the steps below-

  • Download Pristyn Care app and click on the “Create Your ABHA.”
  • Choose “Create a New ABHA Card” and enter Aadhar card number for registration.
  • Provide the OTP sent on registered mobile number for verification.
  • A 14 digit Digital Health Card or ABHA will be generated immediately.

The ABHA account is successfully created and ready for use.

ABHA, a part of ABHM, otherwise known as the National Digital Health Mission, is formulated to provide assistance for the integration of digital health infrastructure in India. With ABHA, you can do the following:

  • Store all information related to your health services and doctor details in one platform.
  • Record and manage details of your medical treatments digitally.
  • Store medical documents such as diagnostic test reports and medical prescriptions under one particular account and use it for future reference.
  • Allow doctors to access your medical files, treatment history and diagnostic reports in one platform.

What are the benefits of ABHA Card ?

Your ABHA is a hassle-free method of accessing and sharing your health records digitally. Here are some of the significant benefits of ABHA/ Health ID Card:

  • Personal Health Records (PHR) - You have the option to link your personal health records with the digital health ID that stays as long-term health history.
  • Digital health records - You can access your health records from admission to treatment and discharge without any hassle.
  • Access to doctors digitally - The health ID enables you to have access to doctors digitally in a safe and secure online environment.
  • Secure and private - The Health ID cards give a platform that is strongly secured and encrypted. Use consent is required every time his/her PHR is being accessed.
  • Easy signup process - You can create your health ID card through basic details along with your Aadhaar or mobile number.
  • Opt out when you want - Health ID cards are not mandatory. You can participate at your own will. You can also opt out and request to erase your data anytime.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is ABHA and Health ID the same?

Yes. Health ID has now been renamed to Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA). This does not impact existing functionalities and you can continue using your account as before.

2. Is the Aadhaar Card number mandatory to generate ABHA/Health ID?

No. Aadhaar Card number is not mandatory for ABHA/ Health ID. If you do not want to use your Aadhaar for ABHA creation, you can simply use your Mobile Number accompanied with self-declared information.

3. Can ABHA be generated only once?

No, an individual can generate multiple ABHAs.

4. Why does ABDM allow a user to have multiple ABHAs?

Since healthcare is a sensitive subject, ABDM does not want to restrict users from linking different sets of health data with different ABHAs. For instance, if a user wants to use a separate ABHA to access data related to their sexual history, ABDM does not restrict the user from doing so. However, in order to establish a better continuum of care, it is recommended that users create & use only one ABHA.

5. What information is required to create ABHA?

To generate ABHA through Aadhaar, the user will need to share name, year of birth, gender, address, mobile number, and aadhaar number. To generate ABHA through the mobile number, name, year of birth, gender, address, and mobile number is required.

6. Are there any fees to create ABHA?

No fee is charged to create ABHA. It is issued free of cost.

7. Are my health documents safe in ABHA?

Yes, your health records and documents are completely safe and secure in ABHA. ABDM does not store any of your health records. Your health records are stored with healthcare information providers as per their retention policies and are shared over the ABDM network with encryption mechanisms only after your consent.

8. How long does it take to register in ABHA?

ABHA registration shall not take more than 10 minutes as you are only required to fill in your basic details, and authenticate your Mobile Number or Aadhaar Number.

9. Is my ABHA unique?

Yes, your ABHA will be unique. With your ABHA, you will have the option to link all your health records to the ABHA. Your ABHA will be generated by using your basic details and your mobile and Aadhaar number.

10. I don't have Aadhaar Card. Can I use any other document to create ABHA?

As of Feb 2022, ABDM supports ABHA creation via Mobile or Aadhaar. However, ABDM will soon roll out features that will support ABHA creation with other ID documents such as PAN card, Driving License, etc. in assisted mode at participating health facilities.

11. What is a PHR Address?

The full form of PHR is Personal Health Records. PHR Address is a self declared username that is required to sign into a Health Information Exchange & Consent Manager (HIE-CM). ABHA users can generate their own PHR Address while signing up for ABHA.

12. How can I access my ABHA if I forget my password?

If you forget your ABHA password, you can login and reset your password through Mobile OTP or Aadhaar linked Mobile OTP, as applicable. In case of any other issues, you can enquire at ndhm@nha.gov.in or call on the toll free number - 1800-11-4477 / 14477.

13. What information does Health ID Cards include?

Health ID Cards include details of the illness you have had, the diagnostic tests you have done, the medicines prescribed by your doctors. Every time you visit a doctor or a pharmacy, all the details including prescriptions will be logged into the health ID card.

14. What is HIE - CM?

Health Information Exchange & Consent Manager (HIE-CM) is a feature of ABDM that refers to a consent manager that enables consent management, and sharing & linking of personal health records for a user. You can use your ABHA to sign up on the HIE-CM (Health Records Application).

15. Who can create Health ID Cards?

Anyone who wishes to have their medical records available online can create a digital Health ID card.

16. What is the official website to create ABHA?

The official website to create ABHA is https://healthid.ndhm.gov.in/. You can access the same through the Arogya Setu app too.

17. Can I deactivate or delete my ABHA?

Yes. If you deactivate your ABHA, you can later choose to reactivate it. But on deletion, your ABHA will be permanently deleted, along with all your demographic details. You will not be able to retrieve any information tagged to your ABHA in future.
