The expert varicose veins doctor will look at the legs of a patient in a physical examination. The varicose veins are visible in general. However, the doctor may suggest a doppler test or an ultrasound scan.
- Doppler Test: A transducer probe detects the direction of blood flow both in the skin veins and in the deep veins. It indicates where the veins have come from and helps in the planning of any operation that might be required.
- Ultrasound scan (duplex): It allows detailed examination of your deep veins particularly if there is a past history of deep vein thrombosis.
