Based on the section of vertebra being operated on, the laminectomy procedure can be classified as – cervical laminectomy, thoracic laminectomy, and lumbar laminectomy. The procedure will largely remain the same, but there will be minor adjustments that the surgeon will make according to the section of the vertebrae.

Both laminectomy and laminotomy are spinal decompression surgeries. The only difference between them is that laminectomy involves the removal of the complete lamina, while during laminotomy, only a part of the lamina is removed.

Microlaminectomy is a minimally invasive spinal decompression surgery that can be performed through a mini-open technique or tubular technique. During the mini-open technique, the surgeon will create a small incision to perform the surgery.
