Urinary tract infection is the infection in the urinary system, including the kidneys, ureter, urinary bladder, and urethra. This condition is the most common during week 6 to week 24 of pregnancy. If not treated, UTI can have severe complications. During pregnancy, an untreated UTI can cause complications with the pregnancy and can be harmful for the baby as well.
Treatment
The gynecologist does a physical examination to check the extent or severity of the condition. The patient may also have to undergo medical tests, if suggested by the doctor.
After diagnosis, UTI can be treated by taking antibiotics prescribed by the gynecologist. Apart from the prescribed antibiotics, the gynecologist will suggest to take some lifestyle changes and maintain personal hygiene. Not completing the course of antibiotics prescribed by the gynecologist can give relief for some time, but the infection may come back again. So, it is suggested to always take the antibiotics for the complete duration as told by the gynecologist or else it may cause recurrence. Not taking medications properly or not following the precautions mentioned by the gynecologist may lead to resistant infections. The gynecologist may suggest you to take the following measures to ensure speedy recovery and cure.

GBS is a specific type of infection commonly found in pregnant females and is known to cause UTI infections. After observing the symptoms, the gynecologist will suggest the female to get some tests done to diagnose if there is a case of GBS late in pregnancy. Antibiotic treatment is carried out accordingly.
It generally takes 24 to 48 hours to get relief from the symptoms . The infection is usually cured in 5 to 7 days after the treatment has started.
UTIs can occur any time. The risk is obviously more for females who have had a history of UTIs. Although, females are suggested to complete the course of medication and also take all the precautions and follow the instructions as mentioned by the gynecologist.
