This causes fluid to accumulate and form a painless lump that may grow over time. While many cysts remain small and harmless, they can become painful or infected if left untreated. Marsupialization: It is a minor surgical procedure performed under local/ spinal/ general anesthesia depending on the severity of the cyst/ patient’s personal choice.
The gynecologist first makes a nick to drain the pus and then enlarges the incision slightly to create a temporary ‘kangaroo pouch’ on the labial lips. This helps support fuller drainage over a period of a few weeks. If needed, the ends of the incision may be stitched outwards or a catheter may be placed to drain the pus.
