The common surgery of the ear is performed to drain out infectiou materials by making a small hole in the eardrum. This is called myringotomy. This is widely used to treat otitis media with effusion (OME) or a middle ear infection. The problem occurs from a virus which causes the area behind the eardrum to become inflamed. This condition is more common amongst children, but the advanced procedure is suggested when antibiotics and home remedies don’t work.
Treatment
The ENT specialist or an ear doctor will insert an otoscope to see the ear canal if the kid has fluid in the ears for more than three or four months following an ear infection. The diagnosis will depend on the symptoms a patient may be feeling.
Mostly, the ENT specialist prescribes antibiotic, or auto-insufflation to adjust the air pressure in your ear. But for the conditions which are causing pain & disorders, surgery is the better option. This helps relieve pressure caused by excessive buildup of fluid in the middle ear. The ENT specialist makes an incision in the eardrum to drain out fluids. That can be pus, blood, or water. The doctor uses a tube to deter the recurrence of the same. It’s a daycare procedure, performed under local anesthesia but children may be kept under observation for a night to monitor the vitals.
