Diagnostic Tests and Polypectomy Surgery Procedure
Before undergoing a polypectomy, a patient typically undergoes a colonoscopy, a diagnostic test that allows the doctor to examine the inside of the colon and rectum using a flexible tube with a camera and light on the end. This test is used to locate any polyps present and to check for other potential problems, such as bleeding, inflammation, or tumors. The patient may also be required to prepare for the colonoscopy by following a specific diet and/or taking a laxative or other medication to clear the colon. Polypectomy Surgery procedure
Uterine Polypectomy is a surgical procedure to remove abnormal growths called polyps from the uterus lining. The procedure is typically performed using hysteroscopy, a diagnostic and surgical technique that allows the doctor to visualize the inside of the uterus using a thin, lighted telescope-like instrument called a hysteroscope, which is inserted through the cervix.
The procedure is usually done under general or spinal anesthesia, and the patient will be placed in a lithotomy position. The hysteroscope is inserted into the uterus, and the polyps are visualized and removed using special instruments such as forceps or a loop electrode. Depending on the size, location, number of polyps, and the patient’s condition, the procedure may be performed as an outpatient procedure or may require an overnight stay in the hospital.
After the surgery, the patient will be monitored for a short period of time and then discharged. Recovery time is relatively short, but some cramping and mild bleeding may occur. The patient will be advised to avoid sexual intercourse, tampons, and heavy lifting for a week or two and follow up with the doctor in a few weeks to check on the healing process and to ensure that all polyps have been removed.
