Urinary tract infection or UTI is the infection in the urinary system, including the kidneys, ureter, urinary bladder, and urethra. UTIs are most common during week 6 to week 24 of pregnancy. But, a female of any age can have a UTI. If not treated, it can lead to severe complications. During pregnancy, an untreated UTI can cause complications with the pregnancy and can also be harmful for the baby.
Diagnosis and Procedure - Urinary Tract Infection
Diagnosis
The gynecologist would ask the female some general questions to find out the cause of the infection and may suggest the female undergo some medical tests.
Procedure
After diagnosis, UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) can be treated by taking antibiotics prescribed by the gynecologist. Apart from the prescribed antibiotics, the gynecologist will suggest some lifestyle changes and maintain personal hygiene. Not completing the course of antibiotics prescribed by the gynecologist can give relief for some time, but the infection may come back again.
Doctors suggest the patients to always complete the course of antibiotics as told or else it may cause recurrence. Not taking medications properly or not following the precautions mentioned by the gynecologist may lead to resistant infections.
