Hysterectomy

Hysterectomy is the process of removing the uterus surgically. In simple words, Hysterectomy is the removal of the womb. It is found in the lower part of Woman’s body. The surgery may involve the removal of the cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes and other surroundings. Due to functional abnormalities, surgery is possible. The main function is to help the embryo (early fetus) to grow inside the womb.

The structure of the uterus is conducive to its primary function to perform. It comprises a muscle wall along with special lining known as the endometrium. Both these components muscle wall, as well as special lining, are responsive to the reproductive hormones released by the ovary. They have a specific function under which the baby develops within the womb which includes nurturing of the baby, formation of the placenta and then expulsion of the baby at birth. The muscle is capable of contracting and tightening during mensuration to expel the blood and during the delivery expelling baby and placenta. It also helps in controlling the bleeding and emptying of the womb. The special lining in the lower part is a sensitive tissue which prepares itself to accept the embryo. The lining shed off in absence of formation of the embryo and it is called mensuration.
