An inguinal hernia occurs when the parts of the intestine and tissues in the abdomen protrude through a weak spot. This type of hernia is very common in men. The bulge occurs as a result of excessive exertion on the abdominal wall over a period of time, due to which the abdominal wall loses its strength. An inguinal hernia can cause immense pain and can become more apparent when you cough or lift heavyweights. An inguinal hernia may not cause major problems if it is asymptomatic. However, the condition does not improve on its own and needs surgery to avoid any complications.
