The doctor will have a look at your legs while you're standing or sitting down to diagnose varicose veins. After a physical examination, the doctor will suggest the following tests:
- Doppler Test: This is a type of ultrasound that uses a transducer. The device detects the direction of blood flow both in the skin veins and the veins that lie deep inside the skin. It indicates where the veins have emerged from and help in the planning of any operation that might be required.
- Ultrasound scan (duplex): It allows a detailed examination of your deep veins particularly if there is a past history of deep vein thrombosis.
