Various factors that influence ICL surgery costs are mentioned below- 

• Surgeon’s Fee- The surgeon will charge a fixed amount for operation and consultation. A highly experienced surgeon is likely to charge more for the surgery compared to a less experienced one. 
• Diagnostic Tests & Evaluations- Before ensuring that ICL is the best method of vision correction for the patient, a series of eye tests are performed. These tests include a visual acuity test, corneal topography, optical coherence tomography, and peripheral retinal examination. All these tests combined can increase the cost of treatment. 
• Type of Lens- There are two types of ICL, toric and spherical. Toric ICL is used to correct both spherical and cylindrical power, whereas spherical ICL is only used for spherical power. Thus, the toric lens costs more than the spherical lens. Other than the type, the cost will also differ depending on whether the lens used is Indian or Imported. 
• Hospital Expenses- Depending on the type of hospital you choose, the treatment cost will differ significantly. That’s because every medical facility has a fixed administration and service cost. Thus, the same surgery cost will vary in government, private, multispecialty, and superspeciality hospitals.   
• Post-Surgery Care & Follow-ups- After ICL, the doctors will prescribe eye drops, oral medications, etc. Besides this, the patient also needs to cover the post-surgery consultation fee, contributing to the treatment expense. 

ICL surgery is considered an elective and cosmetic procedure. Thus, health insurance companies typically don’t provide coverage for the treatment. However, some companies may provide coverage if the treatment is considered medically necessary. 

Even in the case where your claim is approved, the insurance policy is likely to have a sub-limit. Due to this, you may not get enough claim amount to cover the entire cost of surgery. As a result, you will have to bear the rest of the expenses for the procedure.
