What are Strangulated Piles?
Strangulated piles (strangulated hemorrhoids), is a medical condition where an internal hemorrhoid prolapses (i.e., protrudes outside the anus) and becomes trapped outside the anal sphincter. The blood supply to the hemorrhoid is cut off, resulting in a painful and potentially serious condition.
Strangulated piles are considered a medical emergency and require immediate treatment. If left untreated, the condition can lead to tissue damage, necrosis (i.e., death of tissue), and even sepsis (i.e., a life-threatening infection).
