It is usually used after unprotected intercourse or a contraceptive method failure (i.e., the contraceptive method was broken, slid, or missed). It is not recommended to be used as a regular method of birth control, but as an emergency contraception only.
With or without food, Levonorgestrel Emergency Contraceptive Tablet is available as a single tablet and can be taken with or without food. It is to be taken as soon as possible, no later than 72 hours (3 days) following the first unprotected sex episode or contraceptive failure. It mainly prevents or delays ovulation, the release of an egg from the ovary. Therefore, the earlier it is used, the better.

The active ingredient in this pill is levonorgestrel. Once it enters the bloodstream, it prevents the production of hormones, follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH) and luteinizing hormone(LH). Ovulation, or the development and release of eggs from the ovaries, is regulated by these hormones. Therefore, depending on your reproductive cycle, the emergency pill delays ovulation. In the event that the ovary has already released the egg, the tablet functions by interfering with the sperm-egg fertilization process. If fertilization has already taken place, it impedes the implantation(attachment) process in the uterus, which prevents pregnancy.
The likelihood of skipping a dose is low because the 72 0.75 MG Tablet is usually used only once. Remember to take the second dose, though, if you are taking this medication in two separate doses. Take it as soon as you recall if you missed a dose. There is a possibility that you could become pregnant if the delay exceeds 72 hours. Consult your doctor in such situations.
