What Happens In Grade 2 Piles Treatment?
Diagnosis
The treatment for type 2 pies is decided only after a thorough assessment of the condition. The proctologist might perform some standard tests to check the situation of haemorrhoids and which treatment would work best. The diagnostic procedure generally consists of the following assessments:
Physical & Visual Examination: Firstly, the doctor will perform a physical examination, during which you’ll be asked questions about the symptoms you have, your medical history, eating habits, exercise routine, and so on. Next, the doctor might perform a visual examination, generally considered sufficient for diagnosing grade 2 piles. In this examination, the doctor assesses your anorectal region. Based on the findings of these assessments, the doctor might suggest the following tests:
- Digital Rectal Exam: This examination involves the insertion of a gloved and lubricated finger into the rectum area. The aim is to check for any abnormal growth in the area.
- Anoscopy, Sigmoidoscopy and Colonoscopy: To get an up-close view of the haemorrhoids, the doctor might suggest an anoscopy, sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy. These tests involve the insertion of devices with fibre-optic cameras, which give a clear view of the piles and help doctors assess their severity.
Treatment
- Non-Surgical Treatment for grade 2 piles: Mostly, grade 2 piles prolapse but go back on their own without medical intervention. Therefore, in most cases, doctors suggest conservative and often pain-free treatment therapies that are generally performed in the doctor’s office.
- Sclerotherapy: Sclerotherapy is considered an effective solution for internal haemorrhoids and offers significant relief from the condition within some sessions. This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and does not require a hospital stay. However, you might require multiple sittings to see the best results. In this method, a chemical solution called a sclerosant is injected into the Piles tissue, which leads to the formation of scar tissue, and eventually causes the haemorrhoid to shrink. The advantage of this procedure is that the shrinkage occurs without causing bleeding.
- Rubber band ligation (banding): This is another non-surgical treatment for internal haemorrhoids. In this procedure, the doctor inserts a ligator- a small tool through a scope into the anal canal and clasps the haemorrhoids with forceps. The ligator’s cylinder then releases a rubber band and ties the haemorrhoids with them. The rubber bands cut off the blood supply to the haemorrhoids completely, causing it to shrink and shed eventually.
- Infrared coagulation: This is an outpatient procedure for grade 2 piles, in which doctors use infrared lights to clot or coagulate vessels that allow blood to flow to the haemorrhoids. The doctor uses a small probe to direct short bursts of infrared light to the haemorrhoid, which causes the enlarged Piles tissue to wither and shed. This procedure is generally prescribed when the patient has bleeding or prolapsing haemorrhoids.
You should note that these therapies are effective in cases of internal haemorrhoids and not external haemorrhoids. Also, these procedures do not treat haemorrhoids from the roots, and therefore, they aren’t curative. However, they do offer significant benefits in most cases and allow patients to lead comfortable lives.
Surgery for grade 2 piles
Grade 2 piles rarely require surgery. However, it might be needed when the condition is left untreated or conservative methods, and non-surgical procedures mentioned above fail to offer results. If your symptoms persist after conservative treatment, make sure you consult your doctor for piles surgery.
The type of surgery is generally decided based on the severity of the condition. Currently, piles laser surgery is considered best, as it can cause piles in any grade and in people of all age groups. Laser surgery for piles is incredibly effective and offers a permanent solution to the condition. It also causes minimal discomfort and has a shorter recovery time compared to traditional surgeries. At Pristyn Care, we offer advanced laser treatment for piles. Book a FREE appointment with our proctologist today.
