What is a Protruding Hemorrhoid?
Prolapsed hemorrhoids develop when a bulging vein inside the rectum protrudes outside the anus. You usually don’t even feel it inside your rectum until it prolapses. However, as the strain on your rectum increases, the internal hemorrhoid swells and finally protrudes out of your anus.
After it prolapses, you may experience pain, itching, or bleeding. You can generally feel a prolapsed hemorrhoid with your finger. You may also notice a soft bulge if you look at your anus in a mirror.
Prolapsed hemorrhoids can be painful, but they rarely cause major issues. Usually, over-the-counter and home remedies for protruding hemorrhoids can help you feel better. The prolapsed hemorrhoid may be gently pushed back into your rectum. Sometimes, surgical protruding hemorrhoid treatment is required to remove the hemorrhoid entirely.
