Types Of Sinuses

There are 4 types of sinuses, including:

1. Frontal sinuses: The frontal sinuses are two hollow cavities located in the frontal bone of the skull, just above the eyes. They are an important part of the respiratory system, providing insulation to the skull and helping to reduce the weight of the head. • Imaging: In some cases, healthcare providers suggest a computed tomography (CT) scan to understand better what’s happening inside your sinuses.
• Allergy testing: It is usually suggested if you have chronic sinusitis. It helps in testing the allergies that can trigger it.
• Biopsy: In some rare cases, a healthcare provider may take a tissue sample from the nose for testing. 

Treatment of sinus infection

Some of the common treatment options for sinus infection include

Over-the-counter (OTC) medications

A doctor usually suggests a nasal decongestant spray, such as oxymetazoline, to help relieve sinus infection symptoms in the short term. However, you should only use it for three days at a time. Long-term use may exacerbate your symptoms. The symptoms of nasal congestion can be relieved with steroid nasal sprays like fluticasone (Flonase) or triamcinolone without the risk of rebound symptoms from prolonged use. If you have allergies, OTC antihistamines and decongestants might be helpful for sinus infections. Some common options include:

• Sudafed
• Cetirizine (Zyrtec)
• Fexofenadine (Allegra)
• Loratadine (Claritin)

You must avoid decongestants if you have high blood pressure, prostate issues, glaucoma, and sleep difficulties. You must consult your healthcare provider to understand the best option for you.
