When-To-Resume-Work-And-Normal-Routine-After-Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia surgery mainly includes liposuction and gland excision surgery. Liposuction mainly entails removing the excess fat from the body. While the doctor removes excess breast tissue is done in gland excision surgery. Once the surgery is scheduled, the patient has questions running through the mind, “How many days should I take leave from work?”, “How many days does it take to recover completely after the surgery?”. This article tries to answer some of the questions related to recovery after gynecomastia surgery.

How long does it take to recover after Gynecomastia Surgery?

A couple of factors affect the duration of recovery for a patient after gynecomastia surgery. These are- the patient’s own physical abilities, pain tolerance, the technique of the surgery used as well as the extent of the tissue removed. Usually, the patient is able to fully recover within 4-6 weeks of the surgery. On the second day itself, the patient can resume their normal activities. However, they should not avoid strenuous activities as much as possible.

Timeline of Recovery After Gynecomastia Surgery

Here is a basic timeline of a patient recovering after gynecomastia surgery. In some cases, the timeline can extend depending on the patient’s healing properties. You can discuss with the doctor regarding how many leaves you should take before the surgery.

  • Day 1- On the first day of the recovery, the patient is unable to feel any discomfort or pain. Once the anesthesia wears off, the pain kicks in. In order to curb the pain, one can apply ice and take pain-relievers. Once the dressing is done, the patient needs to wear a compression garment.
  • Day 2- After gynecomastia surgery from Pristyn Care, the patient can resume work. After proper consultation with the doctor, they can go back to work or college. Light walking enhances blood circulation throughout the body. However, they need to wear the compression garment throughout the day. Also, strenuous activities such as lifting heavy weights are still a no-no.
  • Day 7- By the first week of the surgery, there should neither be any pain nor any swelling. One must follow up with the doctor after the surgery to confirm if it’s okay to perform light cardio exercises.
  • Day 14- The patient is fully recovered within 2 weeks. However, he needs to wear the compression garment continually.
  • Day 21- After a thorough observation by the doctor, the patient can start with their normal exercises. There is no longer any need to wear the compression garment.
  • Day 42- The patient fully recovers within 6 weeks. There is no restriction on any activities nor any exercises. The patient can start performing chest-tightening exercises.
